Political Technology Network
We are undertaking a research project to study the field of Political Technology in the UK. This field often goes by different names such as “civic tech,” “political tech,” “tech for good,” “community technology,” “public interest technology,” “tech for social justice,” and “data for good,” among many others. For our purposes, we are referring to people and organisations aiming to:
- Use digital technology to shape, study, and transform political processes at group, local, regional, national, and transnational levels
- Advance transparency, accountability and public oversight of government and corporations by using digital technology
- Experiment with and critically examining how digital tools can interact with democratic practices such as participation, deliberation, representation, and collective decision-making, both within and beyond formal institutions
- Influence policy decisions that enable any of the above areas
The goal of the research is to collaborate with those working in the space to understand the existing network as well as to connect them, in order to promote collaboration, share resources, improve capabilities and grow their impact. You can learn more by reading our full research plan.
